Rural Road Safety

Rural Road Safety

Issue
Rural road safety is a growing concern for Maryland farmers as urban sprawl encroaches on rural farming communities.

Background
Approximately 23% of roadway fatalities take place on rural roads. We each have a stake ensuring that drivers and farm equipment operators alike make it home safely.

Through the support of Governor Hogan, Maryland Farm Bureau has worked with the State Highway Administration and the Maryland Department of Agriculture in the past to bring attention to this issue, especially during planting and harvest seasons when large farm equipment is more likely to be found on the roadways.

Position
Maryland Farm Bureau supports driver safety and education related to the safe movement of farm equipment on roadways, especially during planting and harvest seasons.
