Japan Deal a Welcome Win for Farmers

December 6, 2019 – Both houses of Japan’s Parliament have now approved a trade deal with the United States which will go into effect on January 1, 2020. The following statement may be attributed to Maryland Farm Bureau President Chuck Fry:

“The agreement between Japan and the U.S. is welcome news to Maryland farm families. We can now count on access to the Japanese market for our grain, dairy, and poultry products.

This is a great win for farmers, and we hope Congress can continue to work together to secure additional trade deals that will open markets and level playing fields for agricultural exports. We appreciate the administration’s commitment to negotiating new deals and look forward to more progress soon.

We are still waiting for Congress to act on USMCA to bring it across the finish line. Farm Bureau is calling on members of Congress to take action now to get something positive done for agriculture and our whole economy.”
