MD represented at AFBF’s Communications Boot Camp

The American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) hosted the 13th year of their Women’s Communication Boot Camp in Washington, D.C. from June 18-21. Chris Catterton, Maryland Farm Bureau’s Women’s Leadership Chair, and Danielle Bauer, former Women’s Leadership Vice Chair, were two of 15 women selected from across the nation to participate in the training.

The boot camp was designed to help female Farm Bureau members receive the opportunity to collect rigorous training skills to better advocate for Farm Bureau and agriculture. The training focuses on public speaking, communication, social media, messaging, public relations, and advocacy with elected officials.

“This program is truly like boot camp – it will kick you in the butt,” said Chris Catterton. “I enjoyed meeting women from all across the country, and I have kept in touch with them since,” Catterton said.

“The Women’s Communication Boot Camp pushes you outside your comfort zone in a good way,” said Bauer. “It was neat to speak to other farm women from different states.”

During this program, each participant had to come up with a three-minute speech on a specific subject and present it in front of their classmates. Throughout the intensive four-day training, participants learned skills to develop their speech.

Applications are now being accepted for the fall session, taking place in Washington D.C. October 22nd through the 25th . For more information, visit www.fb.org.
